Type 14 Nambu, a work in progress

I was recently asked by a friend to make an offer for a number of pistols in a local estate. My friend had purchased the long guns and assorted parts and ammo but was reluctant to deal with the handguns so he approached me. The original owner a friend of mine who was an avid shooter and tinkerer had passed 17 years ago and left the guns to his son who also passed recently. He lived at home with his 90 year old mother who was anxious to get them out of the house.
Among the handguns I received was a type 14 Nambu that isn't exactly a bubba job but was in the process of being modified into a .22 caliber pistol. Now I have never owned a Nambu so don't have any reference piece to compare. The work that has been done is of good quality and well executed. As the photos show the barrel has been changed and fitted for the extractor but there is no extractor in the bolt at present. The bolt face has been slightly recessed to accept the .22 caliber rim. The firing pin has been altered to rim fire as has the bolt face. The original parts are all matching including the magazine which remains unaltered. Unfortunately my friend that cleaned up the shop and gun room threw out countless items he couldn't identify which most likely included the original barrel and extractor. Maybe there is a Canadianicon tinkerer out there that is in need of a challenging project PM me if you are that person.
