27 May 20 Garand Picture of the Day

M1icon Garand rifle used by U.S. Marine Corps Raiders during the World War II attack on Japaneseicon military forces on Makin Island is at Naval History and Heritage Command’s (NHHC) Underwater Archaeology Branch. Due to the rifle’s significant surface concretions, corrosion and other physical damage, NHHC Underwater Archaeology Branch is performing an assessment of the artifacts stability. I'd call that a rack grade.

Yes, I understand...but there ARE a lot of guys that would pay steep for that rifle. Just because of where it was found. Isn't this a rifle that was exhumed along with the remains of the Raiders buried in secret by the islanders to hide them from the Japaneseicon?

I have no idea. That info is not in the record, here. I took the picture with its accompanying info only.

I paid $58.00 for a 4 digit SA 1903 that I suspect is still the 30-03 but it's so corroded it can't be determined.
