    The mounts may also be of value as they fit the scope.

    @Roger Payneicon

    This was more informed response I was hoping for! Though my corn flakes deserved better!

    @TheAlpineWolf

    As it were, I'm at that dangerous junction where I have a receiver and bolt and not much else for a P14. Do I throw a criterion barrel on it, buy the right scope mount, and build a facsimile sniper? Or do I send my yet-to-exist children to college some day? Truly a pickle..

    I am curious as to the diameter of the scope. If it is smaller than an inch, sourcing a mount may be tricky. Or I'd have to bush is out as roger says. Take your time figuring out it's worth, I'm certainly in no rush.

    Best,
    Andreas

    I'm sure your yet-to-exist children will appreciate the long term planning and thoughtfulness of their father to provide them with a custom made precision rifle to squabble over. Selling it much later might even cover college costs.

    I was pretty certain the Model 1918 has a 7/8" diameter tube, but I dropped a micrometer across one & it measures 0.874". I guess that's close enough!

    @Daan Kemp

    I wholeheartedly agree! The more I think about it, it seems a pretty selfless gesture.

    @Roger Payneicon

    Is there a scope you don't have lying around!? Thanks for the measurements, that would be pretty easy to bush out to an inch. You don't happen to make P14 mounts, do you? The quality of that No4 bracket it top notch.

    I have had P'14 bases & rings made in the past - I even had some rings in 7/8" & some 1" so that either a Model 1918 or an Aldis could be fitted. Unfortunately these old mount systems are very labour intensive to make (= expensive) & since my machinist died I've not been able to find someone who can make them to the requisite standard for an acceptable price. Indeed, the same can be said for several of the mount systems I've had made in the past. I want to do more but the only cost effective solution that I can see is finding a retired Rolls Royce toolmaker who has a passion for model engineering, a fully equipped garage/garden shed workshop, & a wife with expensive tastes! Unless, of course, Sam comes up with something...........
