A bit of everything in this early shot. A Hawley helmet liner, an M1icon with a 1917 helmet, a 1903 with an M1 helmet...a couple of sun helmets. I'd love to examine the gov't stampings on those M1s. Look like trapless butts on the M1s?

Much of the defenses of Midway Island before the battle there were cobbled up at the last minute from an admixture of units, so this isn't too much of a surprise.

Difficult to really identify the type of butt plate, the solid butt plate is very thin at the top and has a curve going into the toe.

While Springfield replaced the solid butt plate in the fall of 1940, Winchester continued to use the solid butt plate into early 1942
