9 May 2021 Garand Picture of the Day

Group of American soldiers catch a nap beside a haystack after a long, grueling march through rugged mountains near Minturno.
    Location: Minturno, Italyicon
    Date taken: May 1944
    Photographer: George Silk

There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.

A bit sloppy with rifles so far away, unless they are deep inside their perimeter. Even then...our SOP was always one leg in in the sling - learned in boot camp because a DI would always come by at night and try to steal a rifle A very useful habit when you never know who is sneaking around the desert. Looks like the second gut from the right is spooning his rifle like a champ and knows what he's doing. Can't see the 4th rifle.
