    Stock Markings on My No.5

    Hi All,

    Based in Queensland Australiaicon ..

Recently managed to get hold of a No.5 MK1 Jungle Carbine that I am currently cleaning up.

Found some stock markings as attached:

    RHS
4.4 or 44 under sling near butt plate

    LHS
    Overstamped 243 in a circle
    Under is 3069
Very faint stamping looks like 3471

Any help to identify if possible would be great.

    Cheers ..

    Impossible to know.
Almost all butt markings seen on No.5's were applied by one or more of which ever military they ended up with them after being surplussed/gift aided by the Britishicon Army.
They are not 'original' markings from the first owner so to speak.
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

    What a dummy ?

I have just spent about half-an-hour going down my list of military codes, manufacturers, battalions etc etc etc looking for 3 letter markings "RHS" & "LHS"

Got as Far as "Royal Household xxx" and "Lincs Hussars XXX" and then the penny dropped.

    Doh.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Probably Indian service and base workshop refurbishment, rather than R.F.I FTR I would think.....
