Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

They're Whitehead Brothers mounts for the SMLE that I think Lorne of Ross Rifle Restoration makes. I also still have some available from my most recent little production run. I bought a replacement Ross handguard off him recently & we discussed the bases & fitting scopes to SMLE's & so on. An interesting chat & a helpful gentleman.

Hi Roger It also was a pleasure also chatting with you. I also do not drill the dove tail scope base holes into the white head mounts I produce. Some guys are using Malcolm 6x scopes (as I am also) for a clone of the A5 Winchester. They are few and far between up here in Canadaicon.

I am still on the lookout for an Aldis Brothers 2nd pattern scope. Working or not!

Here's a few more sets. I leave the drilling of the two 4BA screw holes to the end user so as to permit of the maximum lateral adjustment, in case anyone was wondering why the flat of the rear base is not drilled & tapped. All screws on this system are 4BA - flat head countersunk for the dovetail blocks & countersunk instrument head for the screws attaching the bases to the rifle.

I have a clone of a No. 2 Mk. IV I made up from salvaged/scrap parts using a lined .303 barrel, and a vintage Fecker outside adjustment scope. A Whitehead pattern mount set would allow me to scope this rifle in a manner that would maintain a classic appearance.

Thanks Lorne. I haven't fitted the Ross guard yet, but will get round to doing it shortly. I have a lovely 1913 produced recipient rifle for it!

Yes, I've been lucky enough to turn up a few original Britishicon/Dominion provenanced A5's over the years, but they are getting hard to find now, & tend to command a king's ransom when they do turn up. Even 'civvy' examples fetch quite a lot.

Roger. I picked up a US Warner Swasey a month or so ago. (Doing a Ross Sniper Clone) Now I have to carry lead in my pockets to keep me down due to my pockets being so light after that purchase!

Now back to pursuing an Aldis scope!

I understand only too well! If you need a reproduction base for the Ross project let me know. I had a few made a couple of years back......
