Bren tripod t&e adjustment

Whats the proper / correct way to adjust the traverse clamp lever & clamp nut ?

I just received a nice MKI tripod and my degree ring is painted green. The traverse clamp is not really locking it down and the paint makes it "gummy".

Planning on removing the green paint and want to correctly adjust the traverse clamp and lever.
I have not had a chance to study it but not trying to re-invent the wheel and wondering what the official method is for adjustment .

Too bad it cant talk , I wonder where my AA extension rods ended up!
