    1942 Turkish Ankara K.Kale 8mm Mauser

I was able to pick up two rifles for $150.00 each and while each has its issues, I could not pass on them for the price.

The first one is a 1942 Turkishicon Ankara K.Kale 8mm Mauser. I previous owner took sandpaper and what looks to be TrueOil to the stock and bent the bolt handle over. I'm not sure yet because I really haven't had the time to break it down and check things out, but it looks like the metal was coated with something as well. it's shiny-shiny and has a plastic coating look to it.

The bore looks good on this and it will be fun to take it out and see how it does on paper. Not sure what I'm going to do with this rifle, it's really not one I think I would keep in my collection because the stock and bolt handle has been messed with. I would like an unmolested rifle for my collection.

    Bill,

You've done well. I recall that when I started shooting and collecting from 1980 on, the Turkishicon and Portuguese Verguiro Mausers were all the rage at the local sports store.

Yes, that as when it was more simple and sensible in Australiaicon. But let's not dwell on how good things used to be.

The fact of the matter was the Turkish Mauser was going for AU$65 and the Verguiro with bayonet and sling was AU$80. The exchange rate in 1980 was AU$1.00 = US$1.18.

42 years later you've snavelled up an amazing bargain!

    Well done, that man!

I was almost didn't know what to say when I asked and he told me 150.00 each, I haven't seen that price for even the Mosin Nagant in years. I'm excited to see how it shoots. Thanks

The fact is that is a steal. the Turk rifles are usually good shooters. Being so long an heavy there is no recoil. Long sight radius. There is so many different variation of them to collect too.
