    Kropatschek Cavalry Carbine

Gents, had this for a while now, I have done a ton of searching on the web, and in my library on this one, and have come up with bupkus...just not much info anywhere I could find on these.

It is a Kropatschek Carbine, with a mismatched, but correct, bolt. It has been modified into what I assume is a Cavalry Carbine...

From my research, it seems all Kropatschek carbines as manufactured were in infantry fit, sling swivels on the bottom.

This one was modified to add sling swivels to the side, and has a large stud on the left hand side. The bottom butt swivel cut out was neatly filled. The rear band was either new manufactured, or maybe the original bands had a side sling bar? It definitely does not appear to be added, but manufactured as such...

I assume the large stud added to the butt was for some sort of strap, maybe part of a cavalry saddle scabbard, to attach to prevent the carbine from bouncing out?

Gun seems to be an early gun, part of the first 1000, if my research is correct, only around 4000 were made?

Otherwise, its in very nice shape, cool gun, but not a lot of info out there that I can find on the carbines.

Big questions are who did the mods, and how widespread were they? Any other info/comments appreciated!
