    By the way, he was the first US GI to set foot in Europe during WW2. Second pic is of his unit in Ireland.

    Yes, Pfc. Milburn H. Henke was the first - that was the point of the quiz - astute views will note the early equipment.

    The haversack and meat can pouch, lots of nice early gear! The cleaning rod sticking up from beside his long uncut bayonet is neat to see. He has it through the hole in the handguard of the bayonet to help secure it up top haha. Very cool picture, thanks for posting! Is that a gas mask in a bag under his left arm?
