I have heard the very first P38/P1's were indeed steel frames. Aluminum frames are so easy to manufacture it made sense to the Germans to use aluminum in frame construction. All of the Police P1's I have seen were hardly used. Carried but not used in shooting. I have heard the Norwegian Army bought a large lot of P1's, and shot them to pieces. The Walther folks could not understand what was going on in Norway and sent a team to see for themselves. They discovered the Norwegians were firing daily and the Germans told to Norwegians to stop that practice, as the guns were not meant for that level of use. I like my P1 but use my Star BM for regular practice sessions.

Working on finding one of those for myself but with a price tag that won't force my wife to divorce me. Beautiful pistol!
