So this would be the predecessor to the M2A1 chemical projection adapter? Looks to me like he's using a regular M1 adapter with four prongs with tape or something to squeeze the prongs to the smoke grenade. Very interesting! I would be afraid it would tumble out as soon as it was launched. They later switched to the M2A1 which had a setback ring to hold the spoon handle down. I noticed the picture is dated 1944 and my M2A1;chemical projection adapter example is dated 1945

That was what I thought, maybe bent the fingers to the existing shape? The tape to hold...this grenade has a flat bottom and ours were rounded to sit in the frag launcher.

Yes I believe it is an M1 adapter. Looks like they have even bent the spoon handle on the smoke grenade itself to adapt to the adapter haha
