    Doing the retro thing again....

Been awhile since I have retroed, the closest lately being my Colt 6400C ban era M4. The stupid prices for original retro and even repop has kept me away.

It all starts with a part. Came across a SP1 barrel and complete upper for REALLY cheap in an estate sale stuff. I already had a gas tube, triangular handguard front plate, flat slip ring and weld spring, a Colt BCG and charging handle, and an orphan finished 80% lower with a current Colt LPK. All I needed was a furniture set, front sight base, and buffer and tube. Got a nice set of early furniture (rubber buttplate) and correct Colt FSB online, and tube and buffer from Fulton. Its at my machinist getting the FSB mounted now.

Eventually will get Colt buffer and tube, but for now its good to go. I eventually want it all Colt except for stripped lower.

My last retro was a GAU-5P clone, but sold it when the opportunity to get the 6400C M4 Match Target came up. It's 100% Colt made, unlike the current 6920s which are Colt assembled with mostly subcontracted parts. It's sub 1.5 MOA with MK262 MOD1 77 grainers with iron sights. It is the most accurate AR I have ever had. I heard that the Match Target barrels were cream of the crop, and I now believe it. I can hit golf balls at 100 yards with iron sights from a rest.

Beo Gam and Duck Hunter are quite similar but different. With Beo Gam the leaf litter doesn't overlap like it does in Duck Hunter and Beo Gam has two distinct shapes known as the 'C' Monster and the T Rex that Duck Hunter doesn't have.

I had a full set of fibrite brown that came off a test rifle back in '96. Wish I had it now, I'd rather give it to one of you guys than where it's acquiescing today. It was painted green and black like they did them too.

Early Colt SP1 semi auto Sporter

photos show a early three digit Colt SP1 semi auto civilian sporter. Also shown are the early front sight base and Edgewater buffer. I belive the first 4,000 SP1 sporters had the early bolt carrier. my photo of the bolt carriers shows the early SP1 carrier in the middle with the M16icon carrier on top in the photo.

I had an edgewater buffer come past me a while ago for repair, wouldn't stay together. The little roll pins had been driven in. Just needed a fine tweek...
