    Passing of C.S. "Nick" Ferris

I am deeply saddened to report the passing of a very dear friend and associate, C.S. "Nick" Ferris. Nick was the foremost authority on the Rock Island M1903 rifle and the U.S. Model 1917 Enfield Rifleicon. Nick was also a nationally-acclaimed marksman. Nick passed away on 12 September at the age of 90. He and I collaborated on those subjects and conducted joint research at the National Archives in College Park, MD. I was honored to host Nick for a visit in my home and he and Mid reciprocated and hosted me for a visit in his home. He will be missed. For those who would like to pay their respects, Nick's obituary appears at the following link.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. It's sad to hear of his passing. I enjoyed his book on Rock Island Arsenal.
I really should pick up his book on the model 1917.

    Condolences

I too am saddened at Nicks passing. Looks like a life well lived though, and another tree
planted is the least I can do.

His M1917 book is a great reference. I would encourage anyone interested in the M1917 to read especially the reference notes. Mr. Ferris will be sorely missed. My prayers to the family. He will be remembered for a long time to come by this community.
