    This thread reminded me of an article in the latest issue of American Rifleman on the guns of Robert L. Hillberg. Hillberg held more than 40 U.S. patents on firearm innovations. He even designed a 5 lb. version of a .30 caliber carbine in 1945 - it's pictured in the article.

    Attached pictures show his Whitney "Wolverine" 22 LR semi-auto pistol. I had never heard of these before, but I bet some of you guys have. I found additional information here:
