Arisaka Type 99 Toyo Kogyo Series 35 "Long" questions
Hello all, picked up a nice T99 TK35 Long last week. Very nice functional condition, excellent bluing as expected. Shoots well. Missing mum, monopod, AA sight "wings" and cleaning rod. Slightly Bubba'ed as they removed the Urushi finish on each side of the receiver about half dollar size and scratched "7.7" into the wood. Ugh... I have some urishi and planning on fixing the patches this summer when the humidity is right (I am aware of the issues). Questions:
1. Which cleaning rod should I be looking for, was there one specifically for the T99 Long?
2. Monopod, I assume a longer one for this version?
3. I read on another thread the TK S35 Serial numbers are not meant to be matched bolt with receiver? Mine does not match XX201 on rec vs 110 on bolt (all parts).
4. Value considering above? Due to rarity, does it demand higher values? Did not pay a lot for it and not planning to sell, just wondering....

TK made about 4 times the number Nagoya did plus Bubba got to it, I don’t see if worth much to collectors. I’d have to see multiple pictures to swag a value. As for your other questions, the long rifle cleaning rod, monopod and AA sights and sight ladder are different from short rifles. The cleaning rod and monopod are slightly longer. The AA wings are wider and believe the sight marks on top and bottom. I’m not 100% sure if I’m confusing this with Nagoya rifles but I believe the sight ladder has different marking as the sight base is a little higher…the slider retraining screw is also on the left side vs right side for Nagoya and short rifles.
TK long rifles are also matched by assembly number and will not match the receiver number. Best way to check is to pull the action and see if the assembly number matches. The one I picked up was marked with mismatched bolt but I knew better and got it cheaper than normal matching rifles at the time.
You can get reproduction cleaning rod and monopod from Don Schlickman…he makes excellent parts, best fitting I’ve encountered. You’re SOL on the AA slider with wings unless you get lucky or see one on eBay/Gunbroker and expect one of those auctions to sell for $200+.
Don can be reached at dfsjpn@aol.com, he is a great guy.

Just saw the pics…not a bad rifle. Stock doesn’t look too sanded from my cell phone view. If it’s matching, I swag it around $550-$600 in the collectors market.
J-ROD thanks for those answers, very helpful. Checked and the bolt does not match the assembly number. Assembly number does match throughout the rest of the rifle. I will contact Mr. Schlickman this week.
Here is a TK slider and wings. Notice the indents on top/bottom, short rifles are indented on one side only. Graduations go to 17 and the keeper screw is on the left. I looked it up and Nagoya has the taller base so it only goes to 15.

Right on…I didn’t know he was making them. Does your slider need wing springs? Last I heard he stopped making those. If your handy, you can make them from a hacksaw blade.
