Dragged out the old Lee-Enfield 4T sniper to a club shoot at Bisley 300yrds
Lovely early warm spring day last weekend for our club shoot at 300yrds on the electronic targets at Bisley, UK.
Time for the 4T to get some use. Rifle is 1944 with original matching number Mk.3 scope. Not original barrel though, was fitted with a NOS Enfield barrel about 12 years ago, although its only had about 300 rds through in that time.
Conditions were a bit interesting, as light wind in usual from left to right direction, but then then for 5 or 10 minutes it would be completely still, before wind coming back.
You can see how I got dialed into the breeze after 1st shot and got it on target, and the instantly the wind disappeared for #7 and just about got it back on for the last 3 or so before wind changed again
Was quite pleased with the old girl, and 44.3 was a decent enough score for a 80 year old battle rifle, and only those club members with high mag scoped modern 308 target rifles bettered the old lady on the day.
Ammo was surplus 80's dated Greek HXP Mk.7z.....which I've only now got about 60 rds left, and there's no more of that to be had here in the UK.
Just the thing for putting round holes in square heads.

Certainly can't complain about vertical dispersion!
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
Much changes, much remains the same.

Target says range 300 yds not bad shooting however I did a quick calc and the rounds are certainly scrubbing off the FPS is down from the expected 2,440 to 1,962 = - 478 fps that's like got the handbrake on.
They had a good SD for 10 rounds only 30 odd fps, good shooting Geeram tried mine at 600m the other day with average results I'll have to get back into shooting my 303's.

Yes, I noticed that, but I've heard some saying that the fps reading is not hugely accurate.......which given I was using pukka Mk.VIIz ammo, might be an indication that rumour might be correct.
We're shooting at 600yrds in a few weeks time, but I can't remember if we're booked for electronic targets or we have booked one of those quaint old fashioned squidgy fleshy covered things called a human for marking instead.
If its electronic it will be interested to see the fps at 600yrds.

You should come and shoot the Historic CSR match at Bisley. No running, just position shooting and snaps. There is a 4T class.
