How Difficult Is It To Ring A Doorbell?

I can not understand the difficulty that some people appear to have when visiting a property to do what one would think to be the simplest of tasks, ringing the front doorbell. Some delivery drivers appear to think that the most appropriate way to make their presence known is to ignore the doorbell/s and give the front door the lightest of taps before deciding that no-one is home and taking the package away again.

More recently an online buyer, arriving to collect an item, assumed that he was entitled to wander around every square inch of my property, outside, before making any attempt to ring my doorbell. He had already passed my front door and made no attempt to ring the doorbell before wandering round the rear of the property. Eventually after he had looked over the the rear of my property he made his way back to my front door and rang the doorbell.

When I visit another person's property I immediately make my way to the front door and ring the doorbell or, if there is no bell, give the door a sharp knock a couple of times. Has the "visiting someone else's property etiquette" changed and it is no-longer "cool" to "ring the doorbell".

With mine, they don't push hard enough to make the bell ring. I test it regularly to see...it works. Some will stand outside and text you to tell you they've arrived. Posties will have the card prepared before coming and are already trying to leave when I meet them at the door, unannounced...
    Regards, Jim

Ring the bell? Here they just toss it on the porch and leave. 15 minutes later I get an email saying it was delivered. I tend to get quite a few packages. I'm buying stuff on ebay all the time. Very annoying.

Well yes, the online buyer who arrived to collect his purchase and obviously assumed that it was his prerogative to "forensically" look round the rear of my property, where he had no reason to be, clearly didn't notice that he was being watched by me.

We do have a choice of 3 doorbells including a good old fashioned mechanical doorbell and we do have "little instruction signs" "explaining" how to use the doorbells but it doesn't seem to get through to some people.

You phone or message me from the gate that is 100m from the house. Closer than that even if the gate was open will cause an 'incident'.

Courtesy died long ago. Perhaps about the same time as manual windows in automobiles.

But you're in a very different place in geography. I'd likely do it same as you there...

HA! I'd settle for people actually reading the clearly posted "No Soliciting" signs.
