CMP Has Krags Again
Just saw this in my inbox today.
Krag-Jorgensen Rifles - Civilian Marksmanship Program
They have 800. My best guess without researching further is they are VFW or Am. Legion turnins.
Price is a bit high for me, considering I have one original already, and I'm very happy with the others I've built from parts (one more in the works, all parts accounted for in a bucket under the workbench).

I wonder if they have any really low serial numbers on these Krag rifles ?

Advisory Panel
What would prompt the arrival of this many rifles on the market?
Have they been slowly accumulated or is some sort of program underway to "recover" them?
These were on loan to VFW etc. or just being surrendered by those organizations for their own reasons (declining membership, closing branches etc.)?
“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928
Much changes, much remains the same.

That's a lot of rifles to find all at once. Most VFW's will have a dozen maybe. Most already had 1903's. Price seems high for bad bores, missing parts, etc.

They were still going through them and had them all over the shop while I was there on a tour during my Advanced Maintenance Class a few weeks ago. These Krags are ROUGH and ugly. But, well, they are Krags. I'm glad I've already got the ones I need in my collection, and they are good shooters.

I would think if they really came from veteran's organizations, they would have been collected up corporately first before handing then over to the CMP. I don't want to even think about all the paperwork that goes in such an endeavor.
