    3 day hog hunt

Meeting some friends for a 3 day hog hunt and long range shoot fest . Hogs at night , targets in the day . North central Texas , canyons and riverbed on their 2000 ac ranch . The problem for me is what rifles and handguns to take , a 1/2 truck can only carry so many ! No hunting there for most of the year , so it has lots of hungry hogs [ and big one also 300 lbs is not uncommon ] . Besides my custom rifles I will bring some military rifles , I have a Gew-88 that has a perfect 300 yard zero with a 200 grain load .

Lucky you Bob nail a few for us as well, it's good fun hunting grunters especially in waist high bull rush country that's why I used a 444 Marlin or my semi SKB 12g 3 x SG, 2 x slugs both sold now.

With two other hunters had got 7 dropped on the spot and another 4 that made it to the heavy tress and canyon rim 20 yards away but should have died . It was hot so they were all out at night , so we had to keep with just the rifles with thermal scopes . All AR's , 30 Ar , 300 blackout , 300 Hammer , and 8.6 . We had a few herds with about 15 and many single big boars . Total close to a ton put down and the biggest was about 250 lbs .

Sorry I was busy hunting and shooting . There were about 15 other guys there , non hunters . We spent the daytime shooting on the 2000 yard range [ 50 - 2000 ] , All kinds of metal and paper targets . One of the non hog hunter guys asked if he could go with us on the last night , he had never hunted hogs with a thermal . We let him take the first shot on the big one as we watched through our thermals . When he shot the hog went crazy , flopping , running in circles , rolling . We all let loose and dropped him . It turns out that first shot hit the boar right in the gonads . He was covered in thick mud which defeats thermals , we could not see the whole hog clearly , until he knocked all the dried mud off with the flopping !!

I feel for the hog. Being shot is shippy, but being castrated first…
