The trouble with converting any front-locking action to .22 was, and is, feeding the tiny cartridge across the 'dead space' where the lugs lock up. Rear-locking actions like the Lee-Enfield present less problems.
Well, the .22 does not need large locking lugs. The Parker-Hale .22 conversions of the P.14 only lock with the bolt handle at the rear. There are no locking lugs at the front.
