    Mosin Nagant M-91 with Cast

SA marked M-91 Mosin Nagant with VKT barrel, 5 rounds at 50 yards. Lee C312-155-2R, 160 grain sized .313 with Hornady gas check, 16 Grains of Hercules/Alliant 2400, Winchester primer, Norma brass, necks expanded with .313" Lyman neck expander die.

    Attachment 1926

I was going to try some more of these at 100 yards, but the 100 yard range was too busy, perhaps next time.

And a pic of the old girl with a few home brew rounds:

Man o man, why doesn't mine shoot like that? None of my M91's go better than 3"@100 yards with heavy ball. I find the Finn guns shoot circles around the Russianicon counter parts, except in this case, at least for me. I wish I had the time to run hand loads. Problem is I spend all extra time building long arms and should be spending more time shooting them, Hum, bad cycle to be stuck in!-SDH

    Amazing target with cast bullets.

Thats an amazing target with cast bullets.

Did you use gas checks and bullet lube to get such great results?

Heres a target from last weekend. 150 yrd shots were pretty bad but 75 yrds wasn't all too bad for irons and a 60 kmh wind. My gun is a 1944 Ishevesk M91/30 using 182 gr hungain heavy ball.

Sorry for the delay in responding - I've not checked in here in awhile!

To answer your questions -yes, I used gas checks - standard .30 cal Hornady crimp on gas checks. Bullets were lubed using an old Lyman 45 lube-sizer. The lube applied was a home made blend of unbleached bees wax, white lithium grease and alox.

Good cast bullet accuracy is achieved with good bullet fit and a bore that is totally free of jacketed bullet fouling.

Nice shooting - what were you using for ammo?
