Boy Scouts founder Sir Robert Baden Powell during 2nd Boer War: a Colt Lightning?
That's what it looks like to me. Anyone else?

“There are invisible rulers who control the destinies of millions. It is not generally realized to what extent the words and actions of our most influential public men are dictated by shrewd persons operating behind the scenes.”
Edward Bernays, 1928

Thanks for the posts on the Boer conflict. I just added a Boer contract Chilean Mauser to the family and doing some research to fill in the gaps in my knowlage of the period.

Not being an expert on Baden-Powell, I would guess this looks more like a trooper in Rhodesia from the weapons, horse and equipment.

Looks pretty close to me, but hard to be sure.

No rank insignia, sleeves rolled up, no Sam Browne or similar straps, no sword worn or fastened to the saddle, bridle/saddle/etc. Wrist watch?
The photo in post #6 is in Chief Scout dress as head of the movement.

In his book, "My Adventures as a Spy" Lord B-P frequently would dress in civilian attire, or whatever suited him to the task, including posing as an artist or butterfly catcher, him on a horse without uniform would not be that much of a stretch of the imagination.

It does state Baden Powell at the bottom of the first picture in post 1 (printed on the picture) which is good enough for me.
Montgomery's uniform which he famously wore during WW2 wasn't exactly "standard issue" and must have been a 1 off; a result off his own creative imagination.

Daan, those are all good points, and I too doubt the first (horseback) photo is actually Baden-Powell. I also doubt it was taken during the Boer War and wonder if it wasn't taken in North America (Canada or USA).

The same was true of Patton as well. Both were egoistically involve in image.
