OK Enfield Guru's - Brainstorm with me! (pics)

    Hello Everyone
Please Reply to this by PM THANKS

I have a chap interested in obtaining these rifles (and pistol) from me.
I thought I'd come to you for your insights to what today's market holds for these rifles.

    What do you think?
The 1950 CNo4Mk1* is Longbranch 1950 - parked finish. VG+ condition with a mint bore. Minor storage marks otherwise I'd say she was mint. All matching numbers. I have the original CMk3 site in stores.

    CNo4Mk1* 1950

    1943 Colt USGI 1911A1
Cannot verify the following at this time: Captured by Germanicon soldier from US Soldier post June 15th 1944 (D-Day). The German soldier had inscribed his name, unit, year and rank on frame. Liberated by a Canadianicon Soldier later in Holland who returned home with it after the war. He kept it until his death 12 years ago. His widow sold this pistol to the chap I aquired it from.

Condition: VG+ Small hint of frost in bore (just visible). Everything is as tight as a milspec 1911A1 should be. Cycles ammunition reliably. Nice greenish patina to the parkerizing (80%).
    Inscribed:
    Ober Lt. Ernst Gutermann
1944 (used by CFC as the serial no.)
    64ste Reserve Korps

1946 CNo7Mk1 Trainer - comes with transit case - Excellent Condition

    Hi Riflechair,

I think it is not very helpful but over here for the No4 MKI* in that condition its somewhere between $700 and $900. The 1911A1 starts at $1300 and no idea for the trainer.

    Regards

    Gunner

My take on the guns pictured

    I would venture $550 for the 1950 LB,$1200 for the C No7

That Waldemar Broberg accepted M1911A1 however is REALLY suspicious.
I saw it when the original owner was selling it a few weeks ago on cgn and asked for the serial number UNDER the firing pin retainer.I don't think that it is in synch with the WB accepted frame.I ALSO had a few difficulties with the way the German abbreviated Ober Leutnant and the fonts and MOSTLY why anyone would even BOTHER to remove the United Statesicon Property and Model of 1911A1 and the S/N.There was a fairly serious war going on and nobody much cared about serial numbers etc.The Germans were notorious utilizers of ANY handguns that came their way.Just as our lot were forever on the lookout for Lugers and P.38's mostly but a nice MP40 or K98icon was also a nice prize. My father, being in the Air Force, traded whisky(rellies in Northern Scotland)for guns and came home with 3 duffel bags full not to mention a barracks box full of handguns and the odd MP 38 and MP 40,helmets and daggers etc PLUS some Belgian lace for mum.So I wouldn't place a lot of credence in the German Officer story and would gravitate MORE towards the Canadianicon(like a LOT of US Soldiers too)worrying about that UNITED STATES PROPERTY and the serial number. And in all probability had NO idea about that serial number on the slide.Just like a few Thompsons I have seen with the serial numbers removed from the receiver and frame BUT the one who did it didn't KNOW about the SECOND serial number hidden on the receiver so the defacing was moot anyway.

Gunner can bring you up to speed re the proper WWII Wehrmacht abbreviations too.

In my book it's a shooter and that's about it and worth about $550.Had it NOT been monkeyed with it would be worth an easy $1000-$1100.You are sure doing a quick flip too but that's your choice.

    A little translation

    Ober Lt. Ernst Gutermann
1944 (used by CFC as the serial no.)
    64ste Reserve Korps

    Means:
    1.Lieutenant Ernst Gutermann
    64th replacement corps

Normally it should be written Olt. and not Ober Lt.

For others and Riflechair, you know this from your Thread about this gun.

    Regards

    Gunner

    I know I know
Thats why I specified that I had not been able to verify the story but then again I have not really been trying to.

Edward Horton. Still stiring the pot I see.
Brian Dickicon has a few Greek issue CNo4Mk1* - I am aware of that as well.
This is not a Greek issued Longbranch though.

Google is not the end all be all.
Thats why I want to talk to you guys about this stuff.

Ah, but almost all of the ones I have left will clean up every bit as nice as yours. The metal of most of the 1950 rifles I have left is in excellent condition, inside and out. However, they WILL bring higher prices in Canadaicon.

According to a friend who worked in the local "arsenal" in the 50s and 60s, they overhauled and refinished tens of thousands of No4s, Stens and Brens for supply to the Greeks and possibly Turks, under NATO agreements. Everything was "like new" when it left there. No doubt similar overhaul programs were running in eastern Canadaicon at the same time, and probably doing even more arms as the main ordnance depots are in Quebec and Ontario.
