M1903 Remington Bolt Question
For now I'm storing a M1903 Remington in a hard case with the bolt taken out. Fits better in the case that way. But it seems there is no way to take the bolt out without cocking the firing pin. Is there a way to extract the bolt without cocking the firing pin? It just seems the bolt would be better off with the tension released while being stored.
I hope this isn't too stupid of a question. I've tried the search function but couldn't find anything on this. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

Piece of cake. With the bolt removed grab the bolt body with your right hand and the bolt handle pointing back at your chest. Keep your index finger poised over the little bolt sleeve lock. Use your left hand to grab the cocking knob and pull it out about a quarter inch. While pulling the cocking knob, use that right index finger to depress the bolt lock sleeve and then rotate the bolt sleeve counter clockwise. This will let the firning pin drop into the cocking cam of the bolt. Reverse the process to re-cock the bolt.

Mr. Humphrey that worked like a charm. Great piece of advice. Thanks again.
