The electro-pencil engraving denoting the rifles type "No4 Mk2", made at ROF Fazakerley "(F)", the date of manufacture August 1953 "8/53" and the rifles serial number PF302637. Many Mk2's were made for other countries under contract, this rifles serial number indicates it was made for Sudan.
The Mark 2 Trigger Modification
The modification that defined the Mark 2 rifle was the moving of the trigger pivot point and anchor from the triggerguard to the receiver. Pictured below are examples of the Mk2 trigger assembly with comparison pictures of a No4 MkI. Followed by images of the fore-end modification that was necessary to accommodate the new trigger mounting.

The trigger is pinned to the receiver group from a boss located on the buttsocket. Note the U shaped cut just above the trigger pin. This notch is to allow room for the fore-end reinforcing tie screw, which became necessary after the trigger, was moved and fitted to the receiver. Before this a metal band was used to reinforce the stock but because of the added boss the fore-end had to be altered. For this reason, fore-ends are not interchangeable between the MkI and Mk2 rifles.

This image shows the removal of the wood from the back of the fore-end to allow it to fit around the new trigger mounting assembly. To replace the metal re-enforcing band that was used on the MkI models a screw was added to secure the rear of the stock.

Seen here is how the fore-end was contoured to fit the new trigger assembly.
