It never ends
I haven't looked at M1
carbine items listed on Ebay for a long time but logged on tonight out of curiosity. There were more bugus ads than I've ever seen claiming authentic type I (new) barrel bands with a story it was handed down from grandfather etc, etc.
I guess they're preying on all the new carbine owners and it still makes me sick they get by with it. Old news I know.
This 'Authentic WWII sling' had to be the worst fake and outright fraud I've seen though. "More than ten available"

I'm a noob and got hosed on a carbine sling (ebay'er ezdealz4u) back in December. Advertised as new USGI Vietnam. Was a repro. If I live long enough, I might learn something. The name should have been a clue, right? Underneath his name should have read, "We finance E-1 and up..."

That's our old friend George (a rose by any other name etc.).
You'd think by now he'd have bought a better set of stamps.
Sad that folks like that make money "educating" the newbies.

"Fake" Carbine Slings
I couldn't help but respond to this "chain", but wanted to put in my 2 cents worth.
While I am sure the wholesale criticism of items is self-gratifying to some of you, why don't you provide a positive aspect to this topic by explaining to us "non-experts" how to spot "fakes" or mis-represented pieces?
A fake is something that is deliberately intended to misrepresent an original items.
A reproduction fall into a different category, as they are often represented as originals, but usually not marked or manufactured to the original standards. "At the Front" and "APCO" are examples of vendors who demonstate good character by Marking their items so as to id them as repros.
The carbine slings you reference below are not reproductions, but manufactured during and after WWII by an allied country. Folks who were involved in bringing them into the US, from northern Thailand several years ago believed them to be "reverse" lend lease as they were found warehoused with unissued 2-cell "Boyt 42"-marked carbine pouches and other unissued USGI gear. All the US items were packaged in period shipping crates, much of the canvas and metal/brass showed considerable signs of poor storage. These definitely do not fall into the category of fake or reproduction.
Bill Ricca has lots of experience with lend lease items as he has had many of them offered for sale since at least the early 1980s. Perhaps Bill can shed light on the slings.

I will be happy to shed some light.
There is a claim that they were produced in 1942. That does not hold up. In middle to late 1943 the drawing changed and all slings earlier had a different slide, which is narrower, as shown in the bottom of the image below. This sling has a late slide and blued hardware. Those C tips I have seen on other foreign made items being porned off as "original US GI".
Futhermore the first ordnance contract for carbine slings occured in Nov 42, so any other slings that existed were only those directly from Carbine Manufacturers. None of this story makes sense.
If somebody wants to sell them as foreign made, go ahead. They have no characteristic of US Made slings and the timing is off.
Compare this sling with the evolution of original US GI Khaki slings:

In my mind it is as phony as a three dollar bill.
