1911 colt re-issue (replica?)

Some time back Colt put out GI 1911's to look like the original ones.Does anyone know what the s/n range was?

There were two variations with the first having the heat blued finish as used by Colt up until the early 1940's, and the other a hot salt blue which Colt did not use until after WWII.
I don't know the serial number ranges, but Colt has a habit of starting at 1001. The suffix of the heat blued pistol was WMK and the other WWI I believe.

IIRC, the first run, the WMK 01911 Carbonia Blue model, was limited to 4 or 5 thousand, can't recall for sure. I have one, and it's gorgeous! A fine piece of work, it is. The 01918 model in Black Oxide is still in production.

There was also a run of WWII reproductions of the M1911A1, but they didn't sell too well due to some "inaccuracies" that the collectors scoffed at. I have one of those too, I think there was under 3000 of those made.

There is a recall on both models, and the first model goes up to serial number 5414WMK, so production must have been pretty good for the first one.

I'd say yes! Go for it! What model are you talking about? The Black Oxide finished 01918 model is currently still in production, the suffix of the serial number is WWI. If you can find an 01911 model with the blue finish and suffix of WMK, then definitely buy it! Mine is gorgeous, I bought it used from a guy that works in the office building across the street from where I work. Funny how that deal popped up, it was meant to be, I reckon.

The 1911 with the blue finish is my favorite one. At a dealer here they want to sell it for $ 1700. But with our gun laws i have to wait til january 2010, til i can buy another gun, sh§§!!

my WWII repro doesn't have the "Colt's MFG..." above the grip on the right/serial number side.

Mine just says "UNITED STATES PROPERTY". What is the difference? Which version is more valuable?
