really exotic here.... .45ACP, 200 gr. SWC, Win. 231 question

I canNOT find my blasted reloading manuals (yet.. I hate moving!).
I am sure my fav. load was for 200 gr. SWC bullets is 5.4 gr. Win. 231.

Well, I looked at the Win. web site, finally found their current load data, and noted with some surprise that their recommended max. load is 5.6 gr.
Has the new powder been reformulated?

My largest can of W231 powder is 5 or so years old.

Then, I looked at the Hodgdon web site and see that their recommended max. is 5.9 gr. of W231.

curiouser and curiouser.

I know guys who like 6.0-6.1 gr. W231 w/ a 200 gr. SWC and shot a LOT of rounds of it practicing (for that Bullseye thing ).

In my .45 I've used 5.3 or 5.7 gr of w-231 and it's a pretty accurate load the doesn't beat you up..IMO

OK, thanks. I'm planning to set the old Uniflow to 5.5-5.6 gr.

I wonder what's up w/ the 5.6 as "max."?

Tommy I use 5.5 of 231 for everything from 185 grain to 230's with fine results.

and my "standard" 45ACP load is 5.2 grains of W231 under a 200 grain SWC lead bullet. I suspect this is around 800 fps and it feeds and cycles in any 1911 with a standard spring. accurate, but mild enough to enjoy and shoot lots of rounds.
