Correct BAR 1918 sling?
I'm sure there are different ones for the different models, and was wondering which would be the correct one for my 1918A3 that has all wood furniture. I know the A3 is OOW unique designation for their BAR version, but a friend pointed out that the web sling that came with it was NOT correct for that rifle. Any guidance in this matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

Look up bar sling and go to rollanet.org. There is a picture of a leather BAR sling and possibly a web sling.

I have had the rifle slings page bookmarked for many years now, and they are a nice reference source. I'd read where the BAR sling had three brass hooks, and was heavier than the standard M1907 sling. I don't recall ever seeing one of the M1907 web slings shown on that site.

Yes the sling has 3 hooks I don't remember if they are thicker, it's been over twenty years I've had one. I don't know about the web sling.

They are longer, quite a bit in fact, there is a vendor who is selling a repro, just Google BAR sling and it's the second entry. Mine is a repro I got from Jim Thompson. The web slings are longer than one for the M1
but not as long as the leather 3 prong.

I have one of the web versions and they are noticeably longer than the M1
sling. Matter of fact, I have no love for it. If you need it PM me. We can work it out.

Sarge, So I'm guessing the sling swivel is positional up, or down on the gas tube. I'd seen the vendor you are speaking of, and was seriously considering it, but wanted to be sure about it first. Thanks.

Yes the swivel is adjustable, search for FM 23-15 and on page 116 you'll find the sling instructions, the manual shows the swivel located directly in front of the handguard. Turner Saddelry sells a reproduction I'm sure is of very good quality, but it's awfully expensive.

You'll have to work on the BAR part now. I considered the BAR to be an investment, that I can take out and play with, without suffering any interest penalties!
