Periscopic Prism scope case
Hi Guy's
Just officially joined the forum however have been a bit of a un-official lurker from time to time but now ive decided to take the plunge and post on the forum (next will be learning how to upload pics) hope your patient
. I've just taken delivery of a 2nd pattern PPCo scope with original rings, I say 2nd pattern as it has the long cone ocular housing instead of the stepped version. I understand sometime early in 1916 there were additional changes to the internals and some external changes.
The scope is in very nice shape optically and in overall very nice condition and as such I'm wanting to keep it this way. I'm aware that these originally came issued with a leather carry case with shoulder strap and the scope sat securely in a velvet lined tube. I've had several PPco scopes in the past as well as Winchester, Aldis and early Evans scopes. None I'm sad to say had their original cases and I've never came across any cases for sale on their own. So I will attempt to make one of these using the correct leather and stitch patterns and correct brass roll buckles.
I am uncertain if anyone has attempted to make cases before or has successfully done it ?but it seems a good idea as I don't think these are readily available or turn up much on the more popular auction sites. So as I am in possession of a very early leather sewing machine that was used for either making bridles and saddles I think it would be a perfect opportunity for this project. I've tested it out on sample leather and it works well so I think once I obtain the correct dimensions it will be only a short time before I can produce a case. I think lens caps would also be very possible on the machine too. So if anyone is interested in having a period correct case made and has dimensions of the PPco case Id be very glad to hear from them as I may be able to make something that will protect your rare scope and be period correct.
Regards
Mac

Hey Mac...time for another pint at Trafalgar Square....it has been a couple of years.
PM me with your contact info, as the old number seems to have gone dead.
The scope is still in pieces, by the way.

I bet Johnathan Moore could stitch up one of those cases PDQ. I wouldn't mind betting that he already has!

Moore Leather There's not much he hasn't made by the look of it.

Interesting. I'd be interested in one for mine since I lost out on an original unfortunately mid last year.
