Looking for two No 32 Mk I scopes.

I have not posted these for awhile. Looking for No 32 Mk I Scope number 1766. This should be an early W. Watson & Sons.

Also looking for No 32 Mk I 3193. This should be an early Houghton-Butcher scope.

I realise there there is a chance of matching up your need but let me put it into some perspective. I have recorded the numbers of pretty-well every telescope I have ever worked on since, probably the late 60's. And it now totals just over 10% of the total 26,000 output. In only very few instances have I ever matched up one of those telescopes to another 'lost' rifle or to someone with interest in it. And in only 4 or so instances have I ever been able to put the telescope owner and 'wanter' in touch. Just sayin'

And just to add to Peter's comments, very very few people are willing to trade or sell to rematch a "lost" set.

And in furtherance to Mikes comment, one of those Mk2 tele's I did match up, the 'other' rifle that was numbered on its bracket and the tin was already in existance with guess what.............. Yep, in original condition, ex factory condition with correct, numbered, matching scope!

Thank you both for your posts and perspectives. I do have nice scopes to trade, FWIW. interesting too that so few of the 26,0000 4T rigs have been matched up. I also collect Lugers and collectors have put together a magazine database to match up lost mags with pistols. With over a million units made, you would think that it would be a huge challenge, but every few months you seem to hear a success story. The simple rule is that if you want to play, there is only one rule. If you have a mag to match a pistol, you will accept a like mag in trade. No hostages can be taken.

Regardless, trying to find these scopes is a worthwhile shot in the dark.

I would hazard a guess that a fair percentage of the 26000 units would still be matched. Problem i found with scopes is that on the few times a match is made its always the person with the scope that thinks its easier to ship them the gun, and secondly they always want the gun which is really the master component for a dirt cheap price.

Mind you your situation is a bit different, its a like for like trade.

And don't forget that in actual service we thought nothing of replacing a telescope. For example, if a ZF No4T was being returned to Ordnance, the good telescope might be put onto another rifle. But change the bracket at your peril.........

Miracles do happen.

Yes, locating the matching scope/bracket/rifle/scope case is very tough. Even after finding the items, prying the other person's items (or giving up your own) is a whole other matter.

A friend here has recently purchased the Long Branch No. 4 MK. I* (T) rifle out of the USA which matches an REL scope and bracket that he has here in Canada. He is just waiting for the importation process to be completed.

I have located three rifles that match Canadian issue scopes in my collection, but they are in three different foreign countries which complicates matters! I am presently negotiating with another owner who has the matching scope/bracket/case for a 1943 BSA No. 4 MK. I (T) that I have so that we can match them up again.

I agree that "miracles do happen", so do not be dismayed.

At best I've had about 30 MkI scopes, but out of that 30 one matching rifle did turn up, I don't remember the rifle number, but the scope was 2710. Funnily enough the dealer who had the rifle wasn't terribly interested in getting the scope so the scope went to the USA and the rifle remained in the UK.
