Ishapore MK1**I.P.

Picked this Enfield up at a recent gun show. Can't seem to find much info on it only that it was a short production period from another Enfield board. The rifle has Volley sights, adjustable windage rear sight and mag cut off. Date on left side is 1916 which I believe is the date of conversion?? I have taken it to numerous gun shops and even to an appraiser with no luck on finding history or value. I know that it is Ishapore manufactured and a MK1** Can't find info on the unit disk also, Any help would be appreciated.

My two Mark 1** IP rifles, BSA 1904 and Enfield 1903 were rebuilt to Mark 111 in 1914 and 1917 with new barrels made in India. The rear volley sight was removed and the front dial plate was milled flat. Stock discs were not stamped.Attachment 77121Attachment 77122Attachment 77123Attachment 77124

Mine is not stamped BSA or Enfield as yours or others I have seen. It is only stamped Ishapore I**I.P. Had it to an appraiser( who is an older gentleman ) told me he has never seen one. He also showed photos to a buddy of his who I guess collects Endfields and he also didn't know what it was.

Nothing great, there are more here that will be along to be definitive...it's a very scarce survivor though.

I have a friend who is a Lee Enfield collector who lives in FLA. He has a GRI, ISHAPORE, Sht LE, I** I P, III other side R^F over 1916, serial number 99059.

In Alan Petrillo's book "The Lee Enfield Number 1 Rifles" page 44, there is a photo of a Mark l ** IP, the royal cypher and Ishapore arsenal name where the rifle was manufactured

I'll have to find that book. Sounds about the same except mine doesn't have III on it. Serial number seems to be lower also and mine is an A series. Any Idea on what he values it at? Thanks

Thus my statement...I don't think it's quite the definition of "Rare" but a very scarce survivor of a long past time...
