September 1940 rifle
My 80 year old M1 rifle manufactured in Sept 1940 with the later SA SPG stock that has two equal size holes in the butt. Short window of time of about five or six months of production of these stocks, few originals around. This rifle has the single (original) keystone spring on the round body follower rod and should have had the comp and keystone spring. Everything looks well used but the bore is still nice and brightAttachment 111186Attachment 111187Attachment 111185Attachment 111184Attachment 111183Attachment 111182

Nice, nice, nice...even the front sight seal in place. Wonder where that was hidden when all the mods were being instituted?

1940 rifle
Jim, it had some help to get back to 1940 - but not alot
The early revision 4 safety continued although the revision 1 trigger housing used the small pad for the round top safety which soon became available.
note difference between early SA SPG stock with large over small hole in the butt as compared to the later SA SPG stock with two equal sized holes in the butt.
also marking found on stockAttachment 111211Attachment 111212Attachment 111213

Well, at least you have it. My 1941 is long gone...and you say the bore is nice. That would be important to me too. I know it's moot to a real collector but I like shiny.

I still have my British Lend lease 1941 rifle, bought while in high school working at a gas station
Just checked the bore on my Sept 1940 with the SA 9-40 barrel, nice shinny bore, the T.E. is 5.0 which is high but the muzzle will take a bullet to the brass case
