Qestion About M1 Front Handguard Ferrules
The front handguard ferrule on some M1
handguards has a small vertical indentation (looks like a - )which, when viewed on a rifle, is about halfway between the bbl and the gas cyl. Why is this on some front hg and not others? Does it indicate a particular manufacturer or a production time period? If so, what manufacturer or time period?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have seen those indentations on original post war SA rifles.

I should add that I have seen discussions here about Winchester front handguard ferrules having these indents. I don't have any original Winchester M1
's so I can't tell you for sure from my personal observations.
