Which Handguard ?

What would be the proper handguard on a late 1919 Mark 1 rifle ? My thinking is that it would be..high hump with sight cut, and a concave appearance, or slight convex appearance. Which of the 2 would be correct ?

The correct handguard for your late 1919 Mark I rifle would have a high hump (concave) profile with sight line clearance groove.

I should have added that the correct handguard for a late 1919 Mark I rifle would have a high hump (concave) profile with a sight line clearance groove and a small fixturing slot underneath in the barrel channel at the rear.

Tom, thanks for the link, but I think they are not original. I am no expert ...not even close, but they are missing the indexing cut, and they appear to have an elongated front clip cut. Maybe JB can give his opinion.

The ebay handguards are Remington M1903 handguards made during WWII.

J.B., since I'm still trying to learn more about the many different handguard types, what features on the ones shown indicate that they are WW2 Remington? Thanks.

The Remington handguards in the ebay auction have the following unique/distinguishing characteristics:

(1) Concave high hump profile
(2) Full "half-moon" windage knob relief cut. (Most armory handguards have a "quarter-moon" windage knob relief cut).
(3) A square sight line clearance groove with sharp corners in the bottom. Most, but not all Remington handguards have this feature.
(4) NO fixturing slot in the barrel channel at the rear.
(5) Rough unfinished barrel channel for most of the length. (Armory handguards have smoothly-finished barrel channels).
(6) A distinct 1" wide relief cut in the barrel channel for the front metal clip.

Thanks for your detailed explanation, J.B., that's way more than I've ever been able to find in several books I have on these rifles. Most show drawings, or have explanations that don't really seem to help in differentiating between each type that clearly. It's great to have this forum where knowledgeable folks like yourself are willing to help newbies like me learn more.

Hi John, What exactly does Concave high hump profile profile mean? I've got 5 handguards and I can't tell what is what and its stressing me out for some reason.
