Matching by assembly number was discontinued during the early part of 30th series production. A 32nd series should be matched by serial number.
973xx is late in 32nd series production, so that would have been made in the last months of 1943.

type 99's
I have 14 type 99 rifles. All of mine are Nagoyas. They are all matching in serial numbers. Some have the mum some don't. None of them cost me more than 400.00 and most in the 250-300 range. Any type 99 offered for 750.00 is a gun the seller knows nothing about as far as values go. You can find matching and mummed type 99's out there. The monopods were discontinued at the end of the 4th series and into the every early 5th series. After that type 99's did not have the monopod. Bayonets go from 75-125. as the war progressed and Japan was loosing more each day the type 99's had less of the earlier things on them . Such as cleaning rods, rear sights, monopods and even the stocks were cruedly made. Japanese
rifles were strong guns and are fun to collect because each series is different.

Good thing he didn't pay that much!

$75.00.
