Help with 1941 Gustloff Werke Mauser
Would you be someone who would be knowledgeable about a matching 1941 Gustloff Werke (BCD 41) Mauser?
I have one and the barrel is shiny and near mint. The blueing is near mint. There is no sling or bayonet. A friend is interested in this rifle. What would the fair value be for this? I don't want to rip him off, but I also don't want to give it away.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to post pics on the board, but Badger has helped by inserting them into this post for me.
Thanks.

The bolt doesn't match which will detrimentally affect the value.
Also, judging by the sight hood I suspect your rifle is a refurb.

From the pictures it is apparent that the serial number on the receiver is the same as on the bolt components. So why is the bolt not matching?
Also that sight hood does not look like a sight hood. Some kind of cover?

Apologies, I misread your pictures, upside down the "480" looked like "031" on the bolt.
Is their a crown stamped on the barrel? Possibly over a "U"? I suspect your rifle is an east regman refurb, due to the blues buttplate and post-war sight hood. Such stamps would confirm that.

Mauser
Definetly a re-work, Czech
or East German
likely. Sight guard often seen on Czech. Replaced stock has no take-down disk. Very nice rework however. Figure either side of $500. Claven2's out of town, he'll know.

Skippy,
I do not see any crown or "U" stamped on the barrel, unless there is something located under the handguard or these marks are concealed by the stock. I have not ever taken the stock off. Would these marks normally be visible, or under the wood?

Longbranch mentioned that my stock doesn't have a take-down disk. Did all German
K98s have this disk, or did it vary between factories and over time?

Czech
re-work in a post war czech stock....the sight protector is also Czech.
Basically all WWII Issue stocks would have the take-down lug in the butt, or if not would be either a full-kriegsmodell, or a semi-kriegsmodell with the hole drilled through the toe of the butt and buttplate.
Also, indeed, WWII production buttplates (either flat or cupped) were never blued, always in the white...
Value-wise....it is what it is, I would guess there is a bit of a niche market for nice post war refurbs...but it is not worth near what it would be if it were an original all matching German
WWII gun...my guess, but certainly don't think by any means I am the last word on something like this, is $400-$500...
