Interesting to see a 17xxx numbered scope on a 1945 rifle. No visible TR. I wonder why there's no serial number on the butt socket, but it's there on the receiver. No doubt our more learned members could shed light.

Action appears correct - has the letter "S" on right side by bolt head. Kind of wonder what happened to the "TR" stamping. I'd want to verify the butt stock has ther "S51" stamp for H&H conversion. Nice looking set!

Did Holland and Holland stamp it TR or was this done at BSA Shirley. Is it possible late in the war that this practice stopped? Such an interesting topic.

TR marked at BSA as a rifle that gives a tighter group during the test firing. If BSA can make a bit of a pigs ear of marking TR, then surely H&H can make a bit of a pigs ear of S51... no?

peter. when the war was over or close to over, didn't holland and holland slap together some snipers rifle kits together to finish the contract? i thought i read that somewhere.

For that kind of money, I'd like to see the rifle in the flesh so as to decide wither the London Proof mark has been badly struck or the rifle has been refinished.

Just a thought but he just shows the bayonet scabbard without the bayonet. Is that scabbard for a cruciform bayonet as it's stamped Mk I, or are all scabbards stamped Mk I? If it is a cruciform bayonet and more valuable maybe he just wanted to give the impression it was a cruciform one, Ray

That style of scabbard was used right thru' the war with all the types of spike bayonets not just the cruciform style. Off the top of my head I think S286 is the makers code for Vanden Plas Engineering in the UK
