To Refinish or Not ...
Hey All,
I recently bought a pretty nice 03A3, and posted pictures on this forum:
https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=57990
I have a question specifically about the stock finish. It is a little glossier than I might have expected if it were finished in BLO
or RLO. To me, it looks like it might have rec'd a thin coat of something. That said, it is largely original, so ...
If the original finish was oil, then it shouldn't be too much work to remove the finish, and refinish properly, but ...
I would only do this if the existing finish is in fact not original. I have not seen enough original 03A3s to get in my mind's eye how it should look. Thoughts?
Chris

I wonder if it's been stained in order to give the stock a uniform colour; it sort of has that look about it?

Don't touch it. Nothing is odd about the stock.

I agree - the stock looks fine. Maybe a little BLO
or RLO from time to time - let it "sit" for a few minutes and wipe off the excess.
