1960 BSA L1A1 BDL FTR
With Badger's help, here are a few pictures of my 1960 BSA L1A1 that was recently resurrected from the "ZF" junk pile. I had to send it out to have the worn out body lug welded up and machined. I refinished the metal to MoD spec with phosphate and Suncorite 259. I've had it on the range and it shoots 2-3" groups with a Hythe rear sight fitted at 100 yards. The barrel is a 1970 Enfield manufactured barrel in excellent shape. I was going to put it in new pebble Maranyl but had the original walnut it came with so I opted for the wood with a bit of coaxing! The wood has character and even a rack number on the butt so all I did was rub it out with some raw linseed and install.

Brings back fond memories.

Handled a few of those in my time...... They just felt tough and good the moment you picked one up. I really had no preference for either wood or plastic furniture

Superb work, beautiful rifle. Was it an LEO import?

Thanks enbloc8. Yes, it was. I got it from a Deputy Sheriff in Gainesville, FL in 1994. It was an obvious cull from British
stores and very tired when it was sold off originally. It has a new L1A1A ejector block installed too. It's only taken me this long to restore it!

Beautiful work Brian. That's a superb looking L1A1, really well done. Looks very much like my 62 Enfield, right down to the wood colour.
Great to see another example back on the range!

I have one of it's older Brothers, UB60 A91627. I also need to refinish mine, numerous coats of thick Sunc to remove! Unfortunately its deactivated, done back in 1986 so at least its not solid. It's odd to think it was live for 26 years and has been deactivated for 30!

1986 is an early deac, presumably with the old Birmingham Proof exemption certificate ("This rifle was presented for proof, but could not be because it has been deactivated, blah blah blah" )
Nice light touch on these early examples, very good find!
Any chance of a few pics?
