Question about 1960's DCM carbines.

The first center-fire long gun I ever fired was my older cousin's DCM carbine he got in the 1960s. It had some upgrades (Type III band and sight). I have looked at other DCM carbines, and they usually have some upgrades, though I saw one with a flip sight and Type II band.

My question is this: Are there any DCM carbines from the 1960s that are "un-messed" with that have all original parts?

The reason I ask is that I am weighing probabilities on whether my 1943 Inland is a bring back or if it was a 1960's DCM gun. All I know is it came to me from the estate of an elderly WW II combat vet, whose family said "he had it as long as anyone could remember."

I know I will never be able to absolutely say it is the holy Grail, a "bring back, as he may just as well have obtained it 50 years ago as a DCM weapon. It is 100% as it left the factory, though, so I was wonder if those of you who have known DCM carbines have any that are un-messed with. Inquiring minds want to know.

Pictures of it would help say one way or another. Does it have a type 1 rear sight or an adjustable one? Does it have a type 1 or 2 barrel band? Does it have an a highwood stock? DCM carbines came in all verities from untouched to fully rebuilt.

It is Highwood, Type I sight and barrel band., Here's the thread with pictures and parts listed. Absolutely all are correct for the serial number, and all have matching wear. It came directly to me from the WW II vet's estate (through my dealer). ME is between 0 and 1. TIGHT shooter!

that is purported to be a NRA/DCM sold gun. It has type 2 sight, round bolt and type 2 band. It appears to be new as issued. If it was late featured and new, I could see it sitting in some warehouse and avoiding rebuild. If you were some doggie and told to pick out worn carbines for rebuild, would you send in a brand new one?

The M1 carbines sold through the DCM in 1963 were "unsurviceable-unclassified, safe to fire". Which meant they could be any condition, new, used, or re-built . They were not classified by condition. They were shipped with no magazine, sling, or oiler. But they were well worth the $20.00, including shipping, that they cost. About 300,00 were sold to N.R.A. members back then. All sales were recorded at R.I.A. and can be verivied through the CMP.

Are you sure that "All sales were recorded..and can be verified through the CMP" I have my Dads IBM AO I would like like to document.

I've read Orest Michaels comment that only about 5% of search requests for DCM sales requests result in a hit.

Well it sure could be a DCM or vet bring back as it's about as original as one can get. Great find for sure.

I have owned two, both were minty mostly original except both had flip safeties and adjustable sights added.
