Faux No4T restoration

I thought I'd post some pics of a cheap sporter I took a chance on and picked up, because it had an uncut barrel. What I've learned so far is that it's an August 1942 ROF Fazakerly product. At some point it came to Canada, not interestingly as a sporter, post-war. No "Surrey" or similar barrel stamp, and no British Nitro proof stamps indicating sale overseas. It was FTRed probably at Longbranch, judging by the C-broadarrows and LB stamps on parts, but I can't find a date for that. The sporterisation came later I assume. The serial number on the receiver, bolt and barrel matches.

When I got it the wood was pretty battered and varnished, so I replaced it all with NOS wood. As the receiver was drilled and a Parker Hale A29 mount and Tasco scope on it. I decided to make a faux 4T, by adding sling, cheek piece, vintage Weaver scope, with added sunshade, and scope protectors. The scope was rotated 90 to get the drums in a similar spot to a No32. At some stage I might add a repro No32 mount and scope, but for now I'm happy with the look.

I took it out to the range yesterday, and I'm relieved to say it shoots pretty consistently and well. I think my gamble paid off., and I've not done anything to it that can't be reversed.

Lovely result! You could blacken the brass sunshade with cold blue. Need to remove any lacquer and de-grease first.

Thanks. Yes I considered bluing the sunshade. It's just a bit of copper pipe joint that I had to reduce the diameter of. Apparently 1 Inch interior on plumbing supplies is 1 and 1/8th inch!

You can also get some paint and reproduce the red W and blue B markings on the scope to add to the repro look

I would recommend against adding any fake markings.

Nice looking project!! I agree the sunshade needs backing off a touch, i have used Birchwood Casey Brass black with good results!

Apply it and rub back gently with very fine wire wool.

So I blued the sun shade, then "aged" it, and it looks much improved. Thanks!
