    SMLE Magazine Follower Rivets

I recently picked up a 1915 SMLE and while cleaning the magazine I noticed one of the follower rivets was loose. I was able to re-peen it to tighten it up but in digging around a bit, now I’m not sure if the rivets are upside down even though that’s how it came. I’ve always seen the rounded head on top which makes sense since the peened side tends to have a bit of an edge which may catch the rim of the last cartridge during feeding. Does anyone know if this is ok? Also, we’re all the rivets steel or were they also brass?.

    Thanks

It looks like the rivet has just been hit just in the centre with a 90 degree centre punch causing the sides of the rivet to burr up.

I think that center punch indent is what made me question if they were on right. I hope that slight roughness versus the original rounded/domed head doesn’t nick the cartridge rims.

    Thanks for the help!
