Winchester Safety Question

I just bought a 'Winchester' Type III safety on GB. Only one pic was shown and it was a little blurry but the package just smelled good to me and so I bid on it (only bid submitted). I received it today and it sure looks 65+ year old Winchester manufacture to me. I won't go into the details of the font, machining, finish and wear patterns but I have been doing this long enough to recognize most originals and most fakes, particularly if I have the part in my hands. My problem is the thing is lightly stamped "EW" on BOTH faces. I haven't seen many Winchester safeties first hand and never noticed one stamped on both ends. Is this double marking legit for Winchester or did I buy a very good hump? The books I have don't really comment in detail but I'm sure there's a consensus out there. Either way, live and learn. If its legit I got it for a good price and if it's not then my lesson wasn't too expensive. Thanks. ChipS

There is a Winchester marked M2 lever safety on Ebay right now that has both the EB and a Scriptic S.

I will now try to follow Harlan's tutorial and post (for the first time) some photos of my 'Winchester' safety. Bear in mind I am not a photograper. I tried to upload the sole GunBroker auction pic but it wouldn't go. The first two pics are of the end shown on the auction page (auction pic was slightly blurry). The next two pics are of the reverse end not shown in the auction. The last two are obvious. The safety appears to exhibit honest wear in the right places as expected. I think I been had but the guy did not claim it to be original USGI and I paid about what the left coast normally charges for repros, so I can't whine too loud. Thanks to all for your opinions.

I have had one before that was double struck on the same end. There is always the possibility of one being struck on both ends.

Font, spacing is important.

If someone went to all the trouble to re-mark and refinish a small part and then sell it on GB for a low price, where is the profit motive there? A few bucks for their labor? I would think if they are somewhat talented and can fake a part at that high of a level, they would know to only mark it on one end.

Most of those reproduction parts are being made overseas for pennies. There are some bigger ticket items being made here in the US as well. I've seen counterfeit "EW" safeties go for over $100.00. It didn't cost the seller much more than .25c

it's a "Victimless crime", a little white lie, the same as genuine, but "they don't know" if its real or not, or are not experts on the carbine, were told it was real...blah, blah...
