buttrap screw question - a matter of ethics ?

i have an 1888 trapdoor / rod bayonet , the buttplate is held in place by long screws in both poitions , when the trap is opened the top screw impeads insertion of the trap kit ,

my dilema is - i know these are not being made anymore and i want to respect the bits that are hard to find , i can "CUT" my screw and be happy , is this something i could trade a short one for a long one and come out even with both parties being happy ?

if so PM me , ill pay shipping both ways - or ill just cut mine and be happy .........

    Smile Screws

Have the buttplate screws been reversed or are they both the same length. ?? A shorter screw would be easily obtained from SandS. I would have no problem replacing an incorrect part with a proper one. You are not remarking, refinishing or other wise mutilating the gun,
