    Cool Remington 1903-A3

    Greetings from a new member!

    I recently received my Dad's 1903-A3...Parkerized with a custom stock...long story.

    Question:

The ON/OFF switch on the side of the receiver...when ON the bolt functions properly, when OFF I can remove the bolt entirely, when in a midpoint position the bolt opens far enough insert a single round.
I have been told the midpoint and OFF positions are opposite of their intended purposes.

    Is this rifle operating properly?

    Thanks,

    LRMars

Well , you're saying yours is backwards . The problem with what you are saying is that the full movement is limited by a shorter stop machined in the selector's " barrel " area . The short throw , won't feed from the magzine off position is due to a longer stop machined there in that position of the barrel . The center position is machined straight through , with no stop for the bolt lug to hit , allowing the bolt to come out . There really is no way for the rifle to do what you are saying unless the selector is totally mismachined . This is something I've never heard of .

emmagee1917...you are CORRECT my friend. Based on your comments I removed the rifle from the stock and it functions properly...it is the STOCK that was not properly contoured to allow the switch to move through all 3 positions correctly.

    Many thanks,

    LRMars

Your welcome . I figured it had to be something else . If you look closly under the lever , there is a spring loaded plunger in the lever and three dimples in the reciever . Your stock is stoping the lever before it engauges the lowest dimple . That's how much wood you need to trim.

I am new here and if this type of additional question belongs in an Ammo section let me know...
Is M1icon Garand ammo ok to use in a Remington 1903-A3?
Has anyone used: PRVI 30-06 Springfield 150 gr. SP 20 rnd/box ammo? Not sure if the manufacture is PRVI Partizan or PPU...might be the same outfit??

    Thanks.

The bolt rifles will handle any ammo that you feed an M1icon. I think they can handle any factory ammo. I wouldn't be afraid to shoot it in my "03 or 1917s.
