Several of the WRA experimental barreled receivers turned up at the Stratford, CT. show in the Eighties... I remember two, both with no logo or serial number, one with a big X scratched in the heel. I turned them down because (a) the price was very high, (b) there was no documentation, and (c) zero chance of restoring it. Lots of odd WRA stuff showed up at Stratford, especially after Winchester sold off the museum collection.
Real men measure once and cut.
I seem to remember reading somthing about a field expedient method for rendering an M-1 capable of full auto fire and seeing documentary footage of what appeared to be FA M-1 fire. Am I imagining this?
No, that will not work as the hammer just follows the bolt forward and loses the ignition impetus as the bolt rotates into the locked position. The hammer needs to be held at full cock until the last closing movement of the bolt moves a lever that trips the sear, giving a full-power hammer drop and reliable ignition. Years ago (1970's) I did such conversions on Mini-14's and they worked well. That all became academic when Ruger introduced the AC556 which operated on the same principle.Originally Posted by browningautorifle

There are no great men, only great challenges that ordinary men are forced by circumstances to meet.
