No, that will not work as the hammer just follows the bolt forward and loses the ignition impetus as the bolt rotates into the locked position. The hammer needs to be held at full cock until the last closing movement of the bolt moves a lever that trips the sear, giving a full-power hammer drop and reliable ignition. Years ago (1970's) I did such conversions on Mini-14's and they worked well. That all became academic when Ruger introduced the AC556 which operated on the same principle.Information
